1. Local Search Listings

local search brandingLocal search listings are an excellent opportunity for local business to build their branding today. The best search engines such as Google, Yahoo, and Bing all have local listings for businesses so you can be included on their maps. These pages also show information about your business if your brand or core services are searched. Local listings can show coupons and promotions you are offering, ratings and reviews, images, videos, hours of operations, payment methods, directions, and a brief business description. Local listings can help convey your brands message to your target customers.

To build your local listings visit Google Places, and Bing & Yahoo Locals.

2. Yelp, Foursquare, and Yellow Pages

Yelp, Foursquare, and Yellow Pages are consumer generated pages for your business. These pages are created to help consumers make informed decisions on where to eat, where to buy products, or where to get services. These types of webpages are based on consumer ratings and reviews.

If your business does not already have a page you should go and create one. The next step is to start getting some business reviews. The more ratings and reviews you have the better you’ll perform on these websites and the more leads you’ll get to your business. In order to build effective honest reviews remind customers to write a review right after they purchase from you. You have to make the review as easy as possible. Some of the best companies have their review system directly in their follow-up purchase emails (think amazon). The easier you make it for your customers to give you a review the better chance you will have of getting them.

3. Google Plus

Google Plus is a rapidly growing social network. Google Plus’s rise may be due to the fact that posts and articles that do well on Google Plus also do well in Google Search results. This is leading to more writers, publishers, and bloggers, and authoritative authors to use Google Plus as an important part of their web promotion.

Google Plus has pages for business and people. You can make your business page and tie it to your Google Places account to give more information to your Google Places Listing. You can also get reviews on your Google Plus business page. These reviews will be returned in Google search results. Good ratings lead customers to trust brands. It is important to encourage your customers to leave reviews, but not manipulate the results. Customers trust reviews when there are both good and bad reviews. If all the reviews are positive it makes the reviews look manipulated. Also, a negative review is a chance to learn from your mistake.

4. Facebook

branding on facebookFacebook like all social networks gives businesses a direct line to their customers. Social networks is one of the most confusing marketing avenues for businesses. However, they are not that difficult if you know what to do. First off businesses that fail on Facebook don’t offer anything interesting. They simply write about their products or services post after post. Instead of just writing boring post after post about your business your strategy should be to engage customers in what they are interested. This can be through blogging, images, videos, quizzes, promotions, or contests.

To build your brand on Facebook use an advertising combination of remarketing and paid promotion. You want local customers to see your Facebook posts and paid is the only way to truly grow your campaign. However, you still have to post interesting content for these customers to like your posts and visit your website…and ultimately buy from you.

5. Twitter

Twitter is similar to Facebook in that you need to promote your brand without shoving your business down the throats of the customer. Twitter is a very fast growing social network because it is easy to use and users can digest a lot of information in a very short period of time.

To grow your brand on twitter you need to make connections with other local members of your community that have authority and a large following. By meeting with these authoritative sources you can get them to retweet and share your content to their user base and grow your brand.

6. Other social networks

There are various other social networks out their and your business can’t be the best on all of them. As a business owner you have to decide what social networks your target customers are on and narrow your focus to a select few networks. It is better to be great at one or 2 social networks then to very below average on all of them. For instance if you are selling teen products you may choose instagram or pinterest to share your photo’s.

7. Radio

radio brandingRadio is a great way to extend your brands message to a consumer base. Not only is the short message you have make an impact on the consumer, but the station that it is on will have an impact as well. Music, radio shows, sports talk radio are all great avenues to reach customers. If you are selling sports equipment you might choose to make a commercial on a local sports radio show. As a business owner it comes down to your target consumer and where they are and what they are doing. This is why it is so important to measure all your campaigns and have a plan before you begin building your brand. Get the right message across to the right customer and you’ll receive a sale.

8. Newspapers and Print

Print and newspapers articles are still a strong way to advertise your local brand. Full feature stories can really highlight your business and gain trust from target customers. By sharing your values and beliefs with the newspaper your article will reflect your companies objective and how you can help people. Your business will get a great highlight and feature and a well written press release can generate a ton of buzz for your brand.
