Ways To Save Money

Many consumers do not realize that there are creative ways to save money on entertainment and phone services.  Traditional entertainment costs from movies to television continue to rise, as do phone service costs.  However, there are many ways to save on entertainment and phone expenses, you just need to understand where to find the savings.

On their own, the savings might not appear to be substantial; however, over the course of a year, the savings can add up to significant annual savings, which is why they are worth learning about and in some cases pursuing.  Some of the cost savings require changes in a consumer’s routine, while others are changes that will not even be noticed.  The bottom line is that there is money to be saved in entertainment and communication costs, and you would be wise to learn about them.

Ways To Save Money On Entertainment

The word is getting out that there is no need to pay a cable or communications company $70 or more per month to watch your favorite television programs and movies on your home entertainment system.  However, savings on entertainment do not just include home entertainment.  There are many ways to save money on entertainment both inside and outside of your home.

Here are some ideas regarding ways to save money on entertainment:

Cut the Cord On Cable TV

  • Cut The Cord – With services such as Netflix and Hulu capable of providing streaming video directly to a television inside of a home that includes thousands of television programs and movies, you can literally cut the cord and cancel your costly television service, and instead get your entertainment via the Internet.  Netflix and Hulu cost in the range of $10 per month.  If you are paying $70 per month for television and movies, the cost saving per month could be $60, and could add up to $720 in annual savings.
  • Considering Reducing Service – If you are not ready to take the plunge and cut the cord on your cable or communications company, then it is well worth your time to review what channels and movie services you are actually getting for your monthly service fee.  You may be surprised that you are paying for a level of service that you do not even use or need.  Downgrading to a lower level of service could save you $20 per month or more, and could add up to $360 or more in annual savings.
  • Use Groupon To Find Entertainment Deals – If you are looking to venture outside of your home for entertainment, considering using Groupon or other daily deals sites for entertainment deals.  Significant savings are possible through these sites for many restaurants and local entertainment outlets, including seasonal fairs and festivals.  Since subscribing to receive email blasts from daily deals sites is free, you have nothing to lose and everything to gain from savings on entertainment deals that they send your way.
  • Buy Movie Tickets and Restaurant Discounts From Wholesale Discount Stores – Next time you are shopping at your favorite wholesale discount store, such as Costco, Sam’s Club, or BJ’s Wholesale, take the time to see which movie theaters and restaurants in your area that they provide discounts to.  You can save 20% to 30% on movie tickets and meals when you buy discount coupons from wholesale retailers.

Ways To Save Money On Phone Services

When you are up for contract renewal with your home or mobile communications company, consider cheaper alternatives for home phone and cell phone service.  Considerable savings are possible when changing subscriptions for both home and cell phone services.

Here are some ideas regarding ways to save money on home phone and cell phone services:
Ways To Save Money On Cell Phone

  • Switch To A Low Cost Cell Phone Services – There is no need to spend $100 per month on cell phone service from a top tier carrier such as AT&T or Verizon.  A number of discount cell phone services are now available that can reduce your monthly cell phone bill to as little as $45 per month, with plenty of voice, data, and text to meet your needs.  Look into companies such as Virgin Mobile and Straight Talk for savings.  These carriers use major cell phone networks, such as Sprint and T-Mobile, to provide service to their customers, so their service is generally reliable.  If you are paying $100 per month for cell phone service, the cost saving per month could be $55, and could add up to $660 in annual savings.
  • Get Rid of Home Phone Services – While home phone service (a land line) can be useful to make international calls or calls to customer service centers, cell phone carriers have reduced international calling rates and improved voice quality to an extent that getting rid of home phone service is something that consumers can do these days without compromising on international calling costs or voice sound quality.  Consider getting rid of your home phone service altogether and just rely on your cell phone.  If you are paying $30 per month for home phone service, the cost saving per month would be $30, and would add up to $360 in annual savings.
  • Use Magic Jack For Home Phone Services – If you are not ready to get rid of your home phone service altogether, then consider cancelling your monthly home phone service and signing up for a yearly plan with Magic Jack, which routes calls over the Internet.  You no longer need to keep your computer on to use Magic Jack.  While satisfaction with Magic Jack varies widely, one way of improving your success with Magic Jack is to have a high-speed Internet connection into your home.  If you are paying $30 per month for home phone service, the cost savings associated with changing to Magic Jack would be approximately $300 per year.
