If you are looking for a list of marijuana stocks to trade or invest in the young and fast growing marijuana industry, you have come to the right place. Now that consumers can legally buy marijuana in Washington and Colorado, publicly traded marijuana stocks have caught fire with a frenzy of buying pushing them up quickly. This is still the early stages of the legal marijuana industry in the United States. Many marijuana businesses will likely do quite well for business owners and stockholders alike, as marijuana legalization for both medicinal and recreational purposes spreads across the country.
Any stock remotely connected to the marijuana industry has seen an increase in price over the past year, including several spikes that occurred around news events, such as when marijuana stores opened for business in Colorado on January 1, 2014. Many companies that are focused on providing products or services to the burgeoning marijuana industry have seen their stock prices increase by hundreds and in some cases even thousands of percent.
Of course, not all stocks classified as marijuana stocks are the same. Some are bonafide companies that are growing marijuana-based businesses that will someday grow into huge business enterprises, while others are just latching onto the stock craze and proposing marijuana related business ventures that have no realistic chances of succeeding. A list of publicly traded marijuana stocks is helpful as a starting point to access which companies are the real deal and likely to be long term winners in the marijuana sector.
Since the marijuana industry is such a young fledgling industry that is just getting started, many of the companies involved are quite small penny stocks that trade on the Over The Counter (OTC) markets, including the Over The Counter Bulletin Board (OTC BB) and the Pink Sheets (otcmarkets.com). The stocks are quite volatile and have experienced wild price swings based on the ever-changing news flow regarding marijuana legalization. When good news has been released, the stocks of companies involved in the marijuana business have traded higher in a frenzy, reached peaks, and then sold off.
What exactly entails a marijuana stock is open to interpretation. Generally, any company that in some way derives or intends to derive its revenues from the production, distribution, or sale of marijuana in any way is currently considered a marijuana stock. This includes companies that provide the equipment for growing marijuana, companies that are setting up operations to grow marijuana, companies that help track marijuana sales, and companies that provide products and services to the marijuana retail stores. The following is a list of marijuana stocks that are publicly traded on United States stock quotation services. This list is subject to change over time, as companies either enter or leave the marijuana business, or change the focus of their business operations within the marijuana industry.
Some marijuana stocks will be big winners, while others will go out of business or be absorbed by bigger rivals. Only time will tell which companies in the young and growing marijuana business segment will outperform the current pack of marijuana companies and which will fail. The key to being successful with trading and investing in publicly traded marijuana stocks is to perform proper due diligence before buying a marijuana stock for a trade or an investment. Having a list of marijuana stocks is a good place to start.
